LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Meet Will Schuester's new rival.
Broadway star Idina Menzel is in negotiations to join the Fox series "Glee" as a recurring character. Menzel, who is expected to appear in all of the remaining nine episodes of the season, will play the coach of glee club Vocal Adrenaline, the McKinley High glee club's main competition. Menzel had said she is a big fan of "Glee" and its young star Lea Michele, also a Broadway pro. Because of Menzel and Michele's similar musical theater background and strong resemblance, fans had been lobbying for Menzel to appear on the show as the biological mother of Michele's character, Rachel Berry. Menzel won a Tony for her role on "Wicked." Her co-star on the show, Kristin Chenoweth, guest-starred on "Glee" earlier this season. Menzel is the second Broadway name to land a recurring role on "Glee" this spring. Jonathan Groff, who co-starred opposite Michele in the Broadway production of "Spring Awakening," will be doing a five- to six-episode story arc, playing the lead male vocalist of Vocal Adrenaline and a potential love interest for Rachel Berry. "Glee" chronicles the road to the national championships for McKinley High's glee club, a group of misfits led by Spanish teacher Schuester (Matthew Morrison). This is making me think of the rumors about Will getting another love interest... and the sheer amusement of the possibility of Cheno and Idina being in the same TV show together. |

I thought Dakota Stanley was VA's coach?
 And cue the dozens of people crying about her not coming on as Rachel's bio mom.  As long as there's like a brief touching on the subject that Idina's character and Rachel look identical, I'll be fine.

So.... I'm in denial. I wanted her to play Rachel's mom, NOT Will's new love interest.
 Maybe we won't learn that she's Rachel's mom until way into the season. No one will know that they're biologically related until much later into the series... *fingers crossed* Yep. I'm definitely in denial. In any case, I'm STOKED for Idina guest-starring! |

The thing is, I think it would be silly for the writers to come up with a whole "biological mom" storyline simply because she looks like Lea? I mean come on...we haven't even seen her dads. Why the hell would her mom from 16 years ago show up. I'm just happy she will be on the show

So now I think we can confirm that both Groff and Idina will be playing Will and Rachel to gain a hand on them when they inevitably meet at regionals in the season finale of the back 9.
This will spark Finn and Emma suspicions probably on there motives and both relationships(Wemma and Fichel) will be put to the test. Can you imagine the epicness if in the one where April returns she sings "What is this Feeling"with Idina. I think every Wicked fan would have a minor panic attack. |

This is amazing news. I can't express how much love I have for Idina (God, I was 15 when I feel in love with Rent. That was, umm, more than a decade sadly).
I would not put it past Ryan to suggest Idina could still be biological mother of Rachel hehe Great news! And only 4 months to see it come into fruition. Will be hibernating if anyone is looking for me. |
