Can someone explain this whole scene to me? I'm confused
Rachel is determined the 'throw' (deliberately lose) the competition so Sam can win. She's convinced that if he doesn't feel welcome he won't stay in Glee and they won't win regionals.
So they decide to make their song not only really bad, but outrageously offensive.
They end up singing "With You I'm Born Again" with Rachel wearing a nun's habit, and Finn wearing a priest's collar. Nuns and priests are bound by sacred vows to be eternally celibate. So, the idea of a nun and priest singing a song about how much they love and need each other comes across to the club as extremely offensive and Mr. Shuester kicks them out of the competition. Mission accomplished. :-)

They're singing "With You I'm Born Again" (Original by Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright) dressed as a Priest and Nun. It's a love song...not a song about being born again in the Christian sense. Are you asking why some would consider it offensive?

I loved the whole episode but man that was the most funniest part of the show!
I couldn't stop laughing and all the members faces and what they said afterwards was priceless.

I thought it was completely hilarious. My husband, who was being forced to watch it with me was all "I don't get it, why are you laughing?" that made it even funnier, lol!

lol i know, i was laughing at that part too, way too hilarious but.....i was surprise at the reactions from everybody else in glee, actually more like surprise at the writing cuz i didn't expect their reactions would be that intense. nuns and priests and Catholic at a whole were made fun at tons of times on tv, so it felt kinda weird on how the writer decided to made those glee kids' reactions so intense, i thought it would be just half of the them reacted and other half acted like they didn't care one bit lol.

To be honest, I actually liked their "bad" duet better than "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." Kind of hoping it gets released at some point.
Might just be me though >_>

I just rewatched and Cory's voice sounds great on that song. Hopefully someone will rip it from the episode, because minus the ridiculous performance they sound swell.

Like some of you guys that already mentioned it, I love this duet! The way they arranged and sang the song was so good!! I'm actually surprised that it's not released as a single for this episode. Wonder why...

I would think, going on the continuity thing that some people like to bang on about, that following last weeks' religious episode, their duet was deliberately done to be offensive by using the nun/priest outfits and singing about being Born Again, a love song about people being redeemed through the love of another person sexually
