The one thing Blaine didn't like about living with Rachel Berry was how much he missed meat.

So he had a sandwich with three kinds of meat on it at the deli before he picked up the week's groceries. They had to shop weekly in order to keep fresh food in the house. Rachel wouldn't put up with any of the frozen stuff Blaine had lived off of since the end of high school. He was fine with that, cooking was fun, even in their miniscule excuse for a kitchen.

He smiled a bit, remembering how Kurt's new boyfriend had gotten him to calm down with just a tiny exchange of words and a kiss when they were trying to cook together in that little space. They were prefect together, really. Better than he and Kurt had ever pulled off being. Well, maybe more like they'd been in the early days...better than they could've been once they spent the year apart.

He felt bad for Rachel, frequently, surrounded by gay men. Well, mostly gay.

...right, because that wasn't awkward at all.

Because he supposedly wouldn't be effected bit it, Rachel had no trouble doing things like changing clothes in front of him. He was suppose to be gay, not care about the female body. But you know what? Even he had trouble denying that Rachel had fantastic boobs.

...the fact that she was so similar to Kurt sometimes was painful too.

Blaine pushed these thoughts from his mind as he rushed up the stairs with a grocery bag under his arm. He rushed in, and, as he did so many times upon entering, started singing. Because there was nothing Rachel loved more than impromptu duets.

Rachel, being a vegan, hated meat in the house meaning that she didn't like Blaine eating any around her.

And, being around him sort of made her miss Finn. Though, Finn had chosen to stay in Lima so that wasn't her problem. Broadway was her dream, her love and she wasn't going to let anybody stop that. After she got a place is NYADA, her and Kurt had moved to New York. It had been one of the most amazing moments of her life, and soon they had been joined by Blaine.. things just hadn't worked out for the two of them.

In a way, Rachel felt sorry for Blaine.. being gay must be hard for him, especially when Kurt found somebody new.

Her glance ended up falling on the clock for easily the sixth time within that minute. He had gone shopping for groceries, it didn't take an hour. Well, not for her anyway. Maybe she would see Kurt and his new boyfriend, see how they were getting along. Flicking through the channels on the television, she glanced down at her phone as if she were expecting something to pop up on the screen, though nothing did.

Although she had recently heard from Jesse, after he made her into an omelet then lied to her, she didn't want anything to do with him.

Standing up, she impatiently made her way to the tiny kitchen and pulled a drink out of the fridge. Scanning what they actually had left in the fridge, which wasn't much. Rachel couldn't stand that frozen stuff that Blaine had apparently ate all the time so, they had to cook from fresh. Which he seemed to really enjoy, as did she. She entered what was their living room and sat down, looking back at the TV and thinking about what was going to be for dinner. And who was cooking.

Strange.. he was actually a great cook.

Her thoughts were soon interrupted as she heard Blaine walk through the door, a smile fell on her face as she heard him singing. Rachel just adored impromptu duets, she joined in the song as she stood up and put the drink down. Taking a few of the bags that he had in his hands - she needed her weekly shopping, and snacks which was probably why he always came back with so much stuff.

When Blaine was a kid, he'd hated putting away the groceries. Living with Rachel had turned that on its head, because like most chores, he and Rachel did it to music. They sang at each other as they worked, going through the bags and putting things away. It went by fast...fast enough that they were only two thirds of the way through the song when all the food was put away and the bags were in their recycle box. So he solved that the only way he could.

Blaine grabbed Rachel's hand and spun her, than pulled her close and started dancing. Rachel was a real triple threat, and a talented dancer. Which meant she followed his random improvisations really well. Unfortunately, dancing in the kitchen screwed with his singing just a little, and by the end of the song he was laughing hysterically. The minute he let go he bent double, grabbing his knees and fighting to breathe through his laughter. "Sorry." he offered, whether for grabbing her and dancing the way he had or leaving her to belt the last notes solo, he wasn't even sure. So he didn't clarify.

Instead, he just got back into the freezer, before the tofu Rachel had put away could actually freeze completely. "So...I'm thinking burger night?" he suggested, holding the tray of raw, thawing tofu high-ish toward her. "After all, I did just bring tomato and lettuce...

Rachel continued to sing as the two of them put away the groceries in what seemed like record timing, then again when she was singing she found it went rather quickly anyway. They sang as they did most of their chores, it was actually fun. She had never thought that being in the same place as Blaine would have been as fun. It was only about two third of the way through the song when they finally managed to get all of the groceries away.

As Blaine grabbed her hand, her eyes widened as he spun her around and started dancing with her. She managed to follow his random improvisations very well considering he always added random twists on each new dance he ever did. As he finally let go of her and was laughing, she had to belt the last notes of the solo on her own. Rolling her eyes as he apologized; whatever for she wasn't too sure. As the song finished, Rachel made sure that everything had been put away. Looking over her shoulder at Blaine who was still fighting to catch his breath back, she mumbled something under her breath.

Her eyes followed him as he went to the freezer, raising her eyebrow curiously. As he mentioned burger night, she thought and looked at the tray of raw tofu that he was holding. "Sounds good" she replied, glancing over at the clock on the wall. "You're cooking, right?" she questioned. She needed to run a few errands and had received a text from Kurt inviting the two of them over.

"Oh, and are you coming to see Kurt with me later?" she asked "he invited us over at nine, tonight" she added. Sometimes it was a little awkward, after Blaine and Kurt had broke up and Kurt had moved in with his new boyfriend. Rachel and Kurt hadn't spoke but when they had first moved together to attend NYADA they had been like best friends. Yet, now they hardly spoke and Kurt always seemed quiet around Blaine.

"Of course I'm cooking!" he replied. "I know I'm not half as busy as you are. Which shouldn't be physically possible because I have not actually stopped moving since I got out of bed this morning and you're STILL busier than I am." It was an exaggeration. He stopped moving in class, mostly. So a couple of his professors thought he might have ADD, so what? He knew he didn't, and that's what was important. He was just worried about falling asleep.

Than she asked about going to Kurt's place. Blaine felt his grin widen. Kurt and his new boyfriend were SO CUTE together. Blaine seriously wished he'd ever been that cute with Kurt, because he doubted it. Maybe for a while at Dalton but...Kurt had ended up with a fashion student. They always looked perfect together, like matching dolls. Not to mention their voices sounded beautiful together. Back when he and Kurt would sing together, one of them would always have to slip outside the most comfortable part of their range for them to sound good together. Kurt's new guy sounded great with him when they were both perfectly comfortable. And that was really what had made all the difference in the end. Blaine was super happy for them, and, to use the weird phrasing his old New Directions classmates tended toward, actively shipped them...

"What are you guys planning on doing?"

Because no matter how mature you were about it, hanging out with your ex was always a recipe for awkward. He and Kurt were still friends, remarkably close, meeting for coffee regularly. But sometimes they ran out of things to say to each other, or Blaine would find himself the third wheel to Kurt and his new boyfriend. When he went with Rachel, they ended up splitting up into pairs, and he'd wondered aloud to Rachel more than once why they hadn't just stayed home. So any discomfort on his part was because of that, and nothing else.

Hearing him mention he was cooking, she smiled. Rachel was always so busy - she had errands to run and thing's to do. Her and Kurt still attended NYADA too so that wasn't a help with her day to day life. She laughed with what he said before looking over at the clock and checking the time. Mumbling something under her breath she turned to look back at Blaine as he asked about what they were doing over at Kurt's and she shrugged slightly, thinking.

"I'm not really sure.. probably just a catch up" Rachel commented, trying to think what they would be doing. "You know what Kurt's like" she remarked. "Then again, if I know Kurt, and I think I do, he'll be singing all night" she added, stifling a laugh. "Though, whether his new boyfriend will be too happy with us intruding I don't know" she murmured. Kurt and his new boyfriend were adorable together but Rachel didn't really like him and she had told him once or twice. Kurt loved him, and he looked after Kurt. They were a perfect couple but Rachel didn't think Kurt's boyfriend let him spend enough time with his old friends - then again, that was just her opinion. "So, fancy joining? I'm sure Kurt and his boyfriend would love to see you" she said, a soft smile on her face. Rachel had no doubt that he would probably tag along - he seemed to like the two.

Her mind kept wandering about the fact that the errands wouldn't do themselves and she knew that she would have to get a move on, especially before dinner was made and then they would have to go and meet Kurt. "Anyway, I need to get some errands done.. these things don't do themselves" she said, "though, I'll only be about fifteen minutes. I'm sure you won't miss me too much?" she joked, laughing as she picked her bag up from the side of the chair and picked a few things up from the table in the living room before walking back to where Blaine was, grabbing her keys from the key rack.

Blaine considered. He shrugged and started into the kitchen and dug through the pantry. They hadn't bought more potatoes because they still had plenty, and potatoes always went well with burgers. "I'll think about it." he offered. Trying to decide how to prepare them, he held up two potatoes to Rachel. "How should I make these?"

He didn't wait for an answer before he turned and set to washing his hands. Rachel could talk over the water easily enough, and she had to run. He wanted dinner to be at least almost ready when she got back, best get started now. Especially if she asked for something complicated with the potatoes. He was a good cook until he was asked to do something complicated, and then he revealed just how bad he was at it. So pretty much just like everything else in his life.

Visiting Kurt tonight sounded great, it did. Visiting Kurt and the new boyfriend sounded fun too...because they were great people and Blaine literally wished them nothing but good things. He was just half convinced there was some weird thing in his mood that wasn't up for it. He turned it over and over in his head as he set to work separating the tofu into amounts for patties big enough to be the main portion of a meal. That was when it clicked.

...it wasn't Kurt and the new boyfriend he didn't want to see together. It was Kurt and Rachel. Because when Kurt and Rachel were together, the entire world disappeared. They had history, they were best friends and each other's worlds. They probably would have opted out of NYADA if they hadn't been able to go together. They were like Glinda and Elphaba and no, they would never be able to actually agree who was who. As adorable as Blaine thought Kurt's boyfriend was, they didn't have much in common, and meetings with the four of them were inherently awkward. Because of Rachel and Kurt...

Rachel and Kurt...

There was no logical reason to feel jealous about that. Kurt wasn't his boyfriend anymore. And Rachel was Kurt's best friend...he was just the roommate...

Opting out of digging too far into that thought, Blaine turned on the radio.

Rachel leant against the kitchen work surface, watching Blaine's reaction to her question. She shrugged as he said he'll think about it, though she did hope he would join her. She didn't want to go to Kurt's on her own, though she would. Kurt was her best friend, they did everything together. Her eyes followed him as he dug through the pantry and took two potatoes out. "Um, either chips.. or oven cooked?" she questioned.

Blaine was an amazing cook, or she thought so anyway. Though she didn't feel in the mood for anything too fancy tonight, she wanted something easy to make but tasty. She looked over as Blaine started to wash his hands, setting things for the preparation of dinner and just smiled. Picking her keys up she tossed them in her bag and walked over to him, giving him a hug. Since he had moved in, she had become closer to Blaine, they were good friends now rather than just, a guy she spoke to one or twice when they had been in McKinley.

"Anyway, I better be off" she said, smiling. She looked over at Blaine once more before heading to the front door, with a swift click the lock opened. She walked over to the car, which she had only just got a license for so she was still a little nervous. First, she had to help some old friends out, then deliver a few letters and finally sort through a few papers, but that would take her fourty five minutes tops.

Soon arriving at her first destination, she helped with the packing. One of her friends from NYADA had been offered something over in Korea, a role in a television show so, Rachel had decided to help her pack. Afterwards, she delivered the letters in record speed, and finally sorting through some papers. "Finally, finished" she mumbled to herself as she got in the car, deciding to stop off for some hot chocolate or something. It was the start of December, so she was rather cold. Pulling up outside the coffee shop, she bought a hot chocolate with cream and marshmellows. Not her usual drink, as she liked non-fattening drinks but it would be a treat.

Handing the waitress the money, she exited the cafe and got back in the car. Her phone bleeped and she glanced at the screen, it was from Kurt. She smiled as she read the text 'So, you and Blaine coming over later? We're looking forward to seeing you both'. Rachel just smiled before replying with 'I am, Blaine's thinking it over.' and hitting send and finishing up the rest of the hot chocolate. She then composed another text, this time it was to Blaine. The text read 'Got a text from Kurt.. again, he really wants to see you, I think it'd be fun if you decided to come along x' and sent it, Blaine was good to her, especially since he didn't need to have become her roomate after Kurt had left.

Blaine..

She smiled momentarily before realising how wrong that was. Blaine was her friend, and worse than that. He was gay. She pushed that thought to the back of her mind and continued driving, hoping that dinner wouldn't have gone cold. Her trip to the cafe had took fifteen minutes, so she really hoped she wouldn't have made dinner go cold.

Pulling up outside, after almost crashing into a lamp post, Rachel hopped out of the car. Disgarding the empty hot chocolate holder and walking up the stairs, humming a tune under her breath as she put the key in the lock, twisting it open. "Blaine?" she called as she took her coat off and locked the front door, hanging the keys up on the key holder and walking into the livingroom.

It was a simple fact that Blaine couldn't make chips that were up to Rachel's health standards. He'd tried. She'd tried to eat them. She'd managed about two of them before pushing them to the side of her plate and pretending they weren't there. His second attempt hadn't gotten much better results. Rachel seemed to forget this regularly though, mostly because he made almost everything else to her liking. But how the heck could someone pull off non-greasy home-made chips? So he set about baking them.

Baked potatoes meant sour cream and chives, which made Blaine very, VERY happy that Rachel had gone that route. Because now he felt okay about the fact that he was just boiling coliflower for the vegetable that Rachel insisted on adding to every meal. Honestly he was probablly much, much healthier for living with her. He was only just getting to shaping the patties down when he got a text. The noise in his pocket was timed funny, because when you pick up a lump of tofu and suddenly your phone starts playing a coustoumized theme tune for your best friend...well...it's just funny.

He checked the text once the burgers were frying and he'd washed his hands again. Kurt was asking for him. He still remembered when that sentence could make his heart leap and twist and do all sorts of gymnastics before splattering hard on concrete. Now? Nothing except maybe a vague sense of annoyance. He didn't text back, he still needed time.

When Rachel got back he was just getting everything ready. "Hey!" he greeted. "Tofu burger, oven-cooked potato and boiled coliflour." he informed as he brought the plates to the dining room table.

As Rachel entered the house, she was greeted by Blaine who informed her on what he had made for dinner. "Sounds delicious" she said as she followed behind him into the dining room as he placed the two meals on the table. She held her finger up, showing one minute, before rushing to the kitchen and grabbing two drinks, one for her, one for him and walking back to the table. Placing his drink infront of him before taking a seat at the dining table and looking down at the meal, picking up her knife and fork and eating some.

She licked her lips and giggled. "Definatly delicious" she remarked, continuing to eat the food. Now, Rachel was glad that he had made oven-cooked potato instead of chips. She remembered the last time that he had made chips, they were not up to her standard at all so she was fortunate that he hadn't made a third attempt, as his second attempt of making home made chips, she hadn't managed to eat many more than she had on the first time he had made them. He was an excellent cook though, he prefered his cooking to her own. And, considering Rachel Berry thought highly of herself, that was something new.

"Oh, and sorry I was back a little later.. there's this new cafe.." she started, having a sip of her drink before continuing, "and those hot chocolates.. they are too hard to resist" she said, giggling as she continued to eat her tofu-burger. Rachel still couldn't understand how people could eat meat, or fish. She was a vegan, and killing those poor, unfortunate animals, in her mind, was just totally wrong.

"mmmmm..." Blaine responded to her description of the cafe, leaning back in his char. "You absolutely have to take me there sometime. What's the place called?"

Dinner was passable. Blaine wasn't too thrilled with how he'd done, but Rachel looked satisfied and wasn't that the important part? He offered a smile and hoped the small talk would keep them from the real question until he had a real answer. Was he going along to Kurt's?

Honestly, he wanted to just stay home and watch a movie with Rachel. He didn't want to deal with Kurt or anyone else. He just wanted his roommate. A night in. It wasn't really too much to ask, they did it often enough. What was too much to ask was not allowing Rachel to visit her best friend.

He avoided offering an answer until the question came up again inescapably.

Rachel looked over at Blaine as he asked what the place was called. "We will definatly go some time" she commented, before adding "I don't even have a clue on the name, it only recently opened" she stated, shrugging slightly. "It was something like, the roadside cafe or something" she added.

Dinner was delicious, and Rachel was satisfied though Blaine didn't look all too satisfied with his efforts. Picking up the plates, Rachel cleaned up quickly before walking back into the living room and looking over at Blaine, her mind full of different things. Though, her thoughts were drew to a holt as her phone rang - the custom ringtone that she had selected for Kurt. Rushing over to her phone, she picked it up and put it towards her ear.

"Hiya!" she called happily, "Oh, well, I'm unsure" she replied to Kurt as he asked if they were still comign over, and if Blaine was tagging along. Rachel looked over at Blaine as he was mentioned by Kurt, who seemed rather bubbly. "Well, I think.." she started before being cut off. Kurt was always so talkative, giggling she looked over at Blaine. "One moment.." she said, pulling the phone from her ear.

"Blaine, Kurt want's to know if we are still coming over" she questioned. "And, if you're coming along?" she added, a nervous look on her face. Though Rachel would have rather have stayed in with Blaine and watched a movie, she figured that he would want to go to Kurt's or that he would be busy doing something else. So, she decided to await his answer.

Rachel cleaned up before Blaine could say anything. To be fair, he always pulled that 'division of labor' stuff with her when she cooked. It just never felt fair to him...cooking was fun, cleaning wasn't. And he cooked more often than she did. He did his part and straightened up the living room, of course living with Rachel it never got bad enough to need any real cleaning.

Than a familiar ringtone played and Blaine felt his gut clench. Of course Kurt would call her, he was waiting for an answer. Still, he felt awkwardly jealous of all that they had together. Then she pulled the phone away from her ear and asked the question. It wasn't fair of him to not want to. Rachel and Kurt were best friends, that meant something. And it's not like going would be totally awful. He put on his best fake smile, a convincing number if ever there was one and said "Sure, I'm up for it."

Because he was. He really, really was. Except for the part where he could practically hear their DVD copy of "Funny Girl" calling at him. He never got tired of watching that movie with Rachel, she was always super enthusiastic and yes, outright cute, when she watched it. With any Barbra movie, really, watching it with Rachel was always like watching it for the first time. One of the many things he loved about her. He was distracted enough trying to quell his mental use of the 'l' word about Rachel that his eyes did, in fact, wander over to their DVD shelf. He tried to cover that by looking back at Rachel and asking "You said we'd be going for dessert?"

Rachel looked over at Blaine, waiting for his answer. Kurt was talking in the background, probably to his new boyfriend. She would either have liked to stay here with Blaine to watch a movie or something, or go to Kurt's. Either way was fun, she loved catching up with her best friend. Her and Kurt were actually quite a lot alike. When he said that he was up for it, she was almost certain that she saw his eyes go over to their DVD shelf. She thought for a moment before telling Kurt she would call him back.

She hung the phone up, keeping it in her hand as she looked over at Blaine. "Are you sure you're up for it Blaine? You don't seem very... enthusiastic" she remarked and giggled slightly. "If you'd rather, we can stay in. I don't mind" she said, fidgeting with her phone. Rachel didn't really mind, she would be content with whatever Blaine would have preferred. "But yes, if we are going, it'll be for desert, according to Kurt, his new boyfriend will be making something later tonight" she told him and shrugged. Rachel did get along with Kurt's boyfriend aside from the fact he thought he was so much better than everyone, aside from Kurt, and that did often get rather annoying.

Rachel sat down on the couch, looking over at Blaine and awaiting for him to answer her question. She knew that Kurt was sometimes rather impatient, especially when Rachel didn't stick to her promise. She often called him every night or every morning to catch up with him, even though they spent quite a lot of the day together. In some ways, she preferred spending time with Blaine than with Kurt.

Blaine forced a grin. "I said I was up for it, didn't I?" he asked. He was trying to be happy and go along with this. Rachel seemed to really want to go and...well...it wasn't like he was jealous or had any problems with Kurt's new man at all. He didn't want it to look like he did. So he went to his best puppy grin. "Kurt's boyfriend makes really good dessert."

He hoped Rachel couldn't hear that his enthuasiam was forced.

Rachel smiled slightly, the way he spoke... it seemed different to his usual way, but she decided if he was sure than that was all the confirmation that she needed. "Okay, that's great. I'll call Kurt back and tell him that we'll be there soon" she told Blaine, picking her cellphone back up and dialing Kurt's number. She waited a few moments before Kurt picked up, his voice happily chirped as he gave a quick "Hello". Rachel glanced over at Blaine then spoke, "Hey Kurt. We're both up for tonight, we'll see you guys soon, yeah?" she said. Kurt seemed very happy, "Yes, of course. See you soon. Bye" he said and hung up.

Rachel looked over at Blaine and smiled, "Well that's sorted then. Kurt want's us to go over in about an hour, they've only just made their dinner" she explained.

Blaine laughed a bit. He remembered Kurt having that whole problem when he first started going out with someone else. Adapting to a different internal clock for when it was time to eat. Apparently they'd agreed on some sort of compromise because it wasn't practically midnight before Kurt's boyfriend would eat dinner anymore. "Alright." he said "...so we have about an hour to kill. Any ideas?"

Because if he was going to spend the whole night at his roommate's best friend's house he was gonna get as much time with her before hand as he could possibly manage.

Blaine asked her if she had any ideas for something for them to do for an hour but she wasn't sure, Rachel shrugged and looked up at Blaine with a curious face, wondering if he had any ideas of things to do to kill the time for an hour. "Do you have any ideas?" She questioned.

Rachel was rather looking forward to seeing her best friend later but truthfully, right now she just really wanted to spend some time alone with Blaine without Kurt going on about some new jeans or a new song to sing at NYADA.

Blaine considered, and got up, bound for what passed as their hall closet. "Board game?" he suggested, then he stopped halfway there. "Or we could go through our playlists and find new audition pieces for you..." he paused and frowned "...though...I might still be a little too top 40 to find anything substantial, so forget I said that." she shrugged and grinned. "I don't know...maybe you could take me to that new cafe' if it's still open or..." Blaine's problem wasn't a lack of ideas, it was too many ideas.

Rachel stood up and followed hom as he headed to their hall closet suggesting a board game before stopping, when she was about to speak he changed his mind and suggested finding new songs for her to audition, though Rachel had to admit - his taste in music was a little too top 40 for her taste. He decided to scrap that idea and she laughed. He looked adorable when he was thinking - wait, she did not just think that - shaking her head from the thought she looked back at him. She subconsciously licked her lips at the mention of the cafe', the hot chocolates and cakes there were irresistible but sadly, it'd probably be shut. "We can go to that cafe' tomorrow" she told him.

Pondering on the few ideas that he had mentioned, she looked over at him. "A board game sounds fun" she said and smiled, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards their little closet in the hall and opening it. Glancing at all the board games inside, "Hmm...which one do you think?" she questioned, looking at the snakes and ladders game then the pictionary, there was so many different games.
